Pop music gaining popularity at funerals
    Big News Network (UPI)
    Monday 2nd October, 2006

British funerals have recently featured pop music, with songs by Robbie Williams, Celine Dion and Elton John becoming popular funeral tunes.

The top song for use at funerals in Britain is Bette Midler's Wind Beneath My Wings, Britain's Sky News reported Monday.

Celine Dion's My Heart Will Go On from Titanic is the second most played funeral song, while Whitney Houston's I Will Always Love You, is third on the list compiled by the Co-op, which is made up of 560 funeral directors.

The Co-op said 68 percent of its funeral homes reported an increase in the number of pop songs being requested at funeral services.

We are receiving more and more requests for popular music as people attempt to personalize funerals, said spokeswoman Lorinda Sheasby.

There some unusual requests, including Queen's Another One Bites The Dust and YMCA by the Village People.

What may seem wacky to one person can make perfect sense to another, Sheasby said.
