Capello looking forward to retirement after Euro 2012

Fabio Capello is looking forward to his retirement as the Italian confirmed he would stand down as England coach after Euro 2012.

England is joint top of Group G after two Euro 2012 qualifying victories against Bulgaria and Switzerland.

"We have to qualify first of course, but after that I will be too old," said Capello, who was appointed in 2007.

"I want to enjoy my life as a pensioner," the Sun quoted the 64-year-old, as saying.

Capello took over from Steve McClaren in December 2007 on a six million-pound-a-year deal until the summer of 2012.

He transformed England after McClaren's side failed to qualify for Euro 2008, but having breezed through their World Cup qualifying campaign, Capello's side flopped badly in South Africa and were knocked out n a humiliating 4-1 defeat by Germany in the second round.

Both during and after the World Cup, Capello was subjected to fierce media criticism over his managerial skills.

However the Euro 2012 qualifying wins against Bulgaria and Switzerland have eased the pressure on the Italian who previously managed AC Milan, Roma and Real Madrid. (ANI)
