Borders in UK now protected by new department
    Vancouver Star
    Sunday 14th March, 2010

The UK Home Office has announced a new security office to police its borders.

In the fight against terrorists, criminals and would-be illegal migrants, the National Border Targeting Centre will now carry out a watch on passengers entering and leaving Britain.

The unit, based in Manchester, will operate from a high-tech office and will replace the smaller Joint Border Operations Centre at Heathrow.

UK Border Agency officers will work alongside the Serious Organised Crime Agency and the Police to issue alerts on suspects at airports, rail and shipping borders.
